New PCS version 3.0 for Timetable 2013
14 November 2011
Path Coordination System (PCS) version 3.0 has been released during the night of 7-8 November 2011. The features of the new version are now available for path requests.
Use of PCS version 3.0
PCS version 3.0 has to be used
Existing path request dossiers for the timetable 2012 (which are in the phase “Active Timetable”) will remain in the old structure of PCS 2.2.6.
Important changes in PCS version 3.0
14 November 2011
Some of the most important changes in PCS version 3.0:
PCS version 3.0 mainly covers the new requirements of TAF TSI. Although TAF TSI has to be applied only for freight trains, PCS is already able to use the new features for passenger trains as well. This is the case because very similar requirements for passenger trains are expected in connection with the implementation of TAP TSI.

PATHFINDER turns into RNE Path Coordination System (PCS)
1 June 2011
The RNE IT system PATHFINDER has been renamed: it’s now called RNE Path Coordination System (PCS) and has a new logo, which is a sub-logo of the main RNE logo. This is an important step towards the harmonisation of RNE IT systems’ appearance.

There will be a transition phase of 1 year, where old and new names will be used in parallel.
The new PCS logo can be found here – PCS logo
PCS/PATHFINDER Flash animation
1 June 2011
A Flash animation has been developed by RNE to provide a clear and lively explanation of the RNE Path Coordination System (PCS) and the corresponding processes. The animation film is available on the RNE website and can be watched in 8 different languages.
This animation helps to understand the concept behind PCS. It is very useful for experienced users as well as for persons who have not worked with the tool yet.

PCS/PATHFINDER – Success story continues
1 June 2011
The deadline for placing on-time path requests for the timetable 2012 expired this year on 11th April. PCS, RNE’s web application for harmonising and coordinating international path requests, has once again been used intensively. A comparison with previous years shows a very satistying growth of PCS:

The number of dossiers for freight trains increased heavily: from 96 to 493. This is five times as high as in the previous year. The analysis shows that for passenger traffic the rise of dossiers can be traced back to the inclusion of cross-border commuter or regional trains.
(Reporting date: 2nd Monday in April at 23:59 h CET)
* extrapolation as the old reporting system only listed the leading RUs and not all involved RUs
The growth in the number of participating RUs is also impressive. There was a sharp rise in participating freight RUs: from 10 to 44. The participating passenger RUs also increased significantly: from 33 to 41.
The various efforts of the past years (PCS User News, PCS days, OSS/Sales/Timetabling contacts with path applicants, marketing, etc) have really paid off.

Therefore the messages have been confirmed and the new elements will be integrated during the next PCS release; for example, the traction type will become a new element within the train parameters.

New PCS version 3.0 for Timetable 201314 November 2011
Path Coordination System (PCS) version 3.0 has been released during the night of 7-8 November 2011. The features of the new version are now available for path requests.
Use of PCS version 3.0
PCS version 3.0 has to be used
- for all new path requests and late path requests concerning the timetable 2013
- for ad-hoc path requests concerning the timetable 2012.
Existing path request dossiers for the timetable 2012 (which are in the phase “Active Timetable”) will remain in the old structure of PCS 2.2.6.
Important changes in PCS version 3.0
14 November 2011
Some of the most important changes in PCS version 3.0:
- Common (international) train parameters are mandatory (based on TAF TSI specification and recommendation).
- Calendar with precise days-in-service definition is mandatory for each path section in the path request (also based on TAF TSI specification and recommendation).
- As a consequence of the TAF TSI specification, the system supports RU-IM pairs for each request. This is done to enhance the communication between Railway Undertakings (RUs) and Infrastructure Managers (IMs) / Allocation Bodies (ABs).
- General usability for the input of the request data has been improved with a special “wizard” mode for dossier opening: the system guides the user through the necessary steps during the dossier opening and provides hints about the input of mandatory parameters and calendar data.
